Welcome to Orange: A Region Built for Experiences
There are places you visit… and then there are places you feel. Orange, and the villages that surround it, fall firmly into the second category.
Sitting at 862 metres above sea level on the slopes of an ancient extinct volcano, Orange is one of Australia's highest wine regions. The altitude gives it four proper seasons — cold winters, warm summers, and the kind of autumn that turns the region gold and rust. It's a place that looks different every time you visit, and rewards visitors who slow down enough to notice.
The wine is the headline, but it's not the whole story. Orange has a food culture that punches well above its size, a collection of historic villages within easy reach, and a landscape that shifts from open farmland to dense eucalypt forest to manicured vineyard rows within a single drive. It's the kind of region that makes you wonder why you haven't been before — and start planning when you'll come back.
The villages that surround Orange — Millthorpe, Cargo, Molong, Manildra, Blayney — each have their own character. Millthorpe in particular is worth a wander: a beautifully preserved 19th-century village with antique shops, a good café, and the kind of quiet that's increasingly rare.
At Home, James, we think the best way to experience this region is without a rigid itinerary. Know roughly what you want — a wine-focused day, a mix of cellar doors and lunch, a scenic drive through the villages — and let the day breathe from there. That's what we help you do.
What makes Orange different
- —Altitude and climate that produce genuinely distinctive cool-climate wines
- —A diversity of cellar door styles — from minimalist and wine-first to relaxed and social
- —A food scene that takes produce seriously and cooks it well
- —Historic villages within easy reach, each worth a stop
- —A scale that's manageable — you can see a lot in a day without feeling rushed
Orange is the kind of place that earns repeat visits. We look forward to showing it to you.
